Morocco Selects Kuba for Major Ticketing Upgrade
4:27

The Kingdom of Morocco has chosen Kuba to deploy a unified ticketing system across several major cities in the country, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior. This strategic project marks a key milestone in the modernisation of Moroccan mobility networks ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The first deployment phase has been completed in just under three months to be fully operational for AFCON 2025. Its objective is to offer both residents and international visitors a seamless, modern and accessible transport experience across the participating networks.

Transformation of mobility in Morocco

Morocco is undertaking a major transformation of its transport infrastructure, placing digitalisation and interoperability at the heart of its national mobility strategy. As the country prepares to welcome millions of visitors, it is investing in an ecosystem that simplifies travel between regions and networks.

The implementation of an interoperable ticketing system is a key lever to enable seamless journeys and improve the passenger experience at a national scale.

A next-generation ticketing platform

Kuba’s ticketing solution allows occasional users to travel using a QR-code ticket, while regular users can use a secure, contactless smart card. The solution has been rolled out on nearly 1,000 new vehicles in time for the kick off of AFCON 2025.

A major step towards digitalisation is underway, and passengers will very soon be able to travel using their smartphone and bank card. Hosted on a sovereign Moroccan cloud, the system provided by Kuba ensures secure data management while complying with the standards set out in the Kingdom of Morocco’s development strategy.

The system is already in operation on the public transport networks operated by Marrakech Mobility, Tanja Mobilité and Agadir Mobilité, covering five major territories: Marrakech, Fez, Tangier, Agadir and, soon, Tetouan.

Large-scale, multi-territory programme

Through these deployments, Kuba is delivering a nationwide programme in Morocco, in close collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and the Directorate of Municipal Equipment and Urban Transport (DEMUT).

Since last summer, DEMUT has been driving a comprehensive and structured overhaul of public transport ticketing to harmonise practices, facilitate interoperability between territories and establish the foundations of a long-term, nationwide system.

This programme is built on close coordination between central authorities, local development companies (Sociétés de Développement Local – SDL) and transport operators, to ensure technical, functional and operational consistency across all participating networks.

Within this framework, Kuba works alongside regional technology partners Accedo and Techcorner, bringing together international expertise, deep experience in complex ticketing environments and a strong understanding of the Moroccan context.

“Our partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco represents a major milestone for Kuba and demonstrates our ability to deliver large-scale, multi-operator ticketing systems. Morocco is making ambitious investments in the future of its mobility, and we are proud to support this national vision,” says Tarik Dinane, COO Kuba and DG Kuba France.

After the first phase, the rollout will gather momentum, adding new installations that make travel even simpler. With digital ticketing set to accelerate, Morocco is on track to deliver a modern, fully interconnected mobility network, built to international standards, and designed for both residents and the millions who visit each year.
