Salar Salim recently completed a twelve week student internship with us at Kuba’s Denmark office in Copenhagen. We sat down with him to discuss the experience and why other students should consider the opportunity.
What are you currently studying?
I am currently studying for an AP (Academy Profession) degree in Computer Science at CPH Business Academy.
What attracted you to the intern position at Kuba?
I was contacted by Kuba following a recommendation regarding an internship opportunity. After the interview, I felt this was the right fit for me. From a technical perspective, I was already familiar with many of the tools used due to my studies, and our expectations for the internship aligned well. Additionally, I was drawn to the positive and welcoming atmosphere in the office.
What is your role at Kuba?
Throughout my internship, I was employed as a backend developer. After a training period, I worked alongside the team as any other developer, contributing to daily tasks and responsibilities.
What did a typical day or week during your internship look like?
A typical week during my internship started with a team meeting to update everyone on our current work, followed by a check-in on Thursdays. My day usually involves working on a specific task until lunch, with afternoons spent continuing that work. Every other Wednesday, a demo session showcases what we have worked on throughout the two weeks.
What was the best part of your time at Kuba?
The best part was being trained and integrated into the backend team. Contributing to work that’s now actively used gave me pride and confidence in my skills. On a personal note, I felt valued and respected and experienced a great sense of camaraderie, making my stay both rewarding and enjoyable.
What is the work culture like in the office?
The Copenhagen office has a pleasant work environment where everyone supports and motivates each other. There’s a positive vibe, and people are always willing to share their expertise and experiences when needed.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to secure a full-time position as a backend developer, further develop my skills in programming and software architecture, and hopefully lead my own team someday.
Would you recommend the internship to others? And why?
I highly recommend an internship at Kuba to other students, particularly those in computer science, with an intermediate to advanced understanding of programming. The level of responsibility given, combined with tasks that engage various aspects of a computer science education, makes it an ideal environment for students looking to apply and expand their skills.
