Rome is buzzing this week as a million young Catholics gather for the Jubilee of Youth, a packed program of events all over the city. To make getting around easier, Kuba has set up new metro validators, allowing visitors to just tap with their special Pilgrim's Pass and go!
The digital pass is easy to get – pilgrims just sign up through an online portal or the official Jubilee App. Once registered, they receive a unique QR code and a personalised account in the app, unlocking a smoother journey through the city.
The app and portal also double as a go-to guide for the Jubilee. Pilgrims can register for the main events, including the highlight of the week: a pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica. With so many people in town, the signup system helps keep everything flowing smoothly!
The techie bit:
We've equipped all Rome metro stations’ gates with new Kuba validators that automatically verify pilgrims’ passes using an Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) system.
The new validator is an all-in-one device that supports contactless tickets (like the Pilgrim's Pass), EMV payments, and high-speed QR code scanning for real-time pass validation.
With this new validator, we're replacing three separate readers previously installed on Rome metro gates with a single all-in-one online device. In place of a contactless reader for closed-loop (CNT) cards, an EMV POS terminal for open-loop payments, and a QR code reader for offline barcode validation, the new device combines all three functions into one!
Simpler set-up, improved efficiency.
