Nouvelle-Aquitaine Mobilités (NAM) is taking a major step forward in the evolution of regional mobility in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region by extending its ticketing system to regional rail. With this initiative, the region becomes the first in France to directly manage its regional TER ticketing system, a significant milestone that establishes new foundations for regional mobility governance.

Progressive deployment across the region

The project includes the deployment of ticket vending machines configured by NAM’s technology partner, Kuba. The first units are already installed in Bordeaux Saint-Jean, Limoges, Dax, Pessac and La Souterraine stations, with Talence to follow shortly, as part of a three-month pilot phase.

Nearly 190 ticket vending machines will be deployed across 174 stations in a phased roll-out during 2026. On completion, there will be approximately 30% more machines than the current estate, facilitating access to regional rail services.

An open and interoperable technology solution

The complete ticketing solution combines Kuba’s proven ticketing hardware with its next-generation SaaS platform. The system provides passengers with a fast, intuitive self-service purchasing experience. The technology offers the region an opportunity to fulfil its vision for seamless multimodal journeys.

Through this deployment, Kuba supports Nouvelle-Aquitaine Mobilités’ ambition to build an integrated, multimodal mobility ecosystem, linking regional rail ticketing with regional coach services and urban transport networks.

The system is built on the open OSDM (Open Sales and Distribution Model) standard, ensuring full interoperability between transport authorities, distributors and operators.

This open approach is key to developing the regional mobility market, particularly in response to the growing demand for inter-regional travel.

A key pillar of the regional mobility strategy

Already deployed across eight transport networks in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Kuba platform provides a scalable foundation for the development of multimodal ticketing, digital payments and new passenger services.

Kuba is delivering this project, along with many other major programmes in France, in partnership with La Banque Postale. Through its subsidiary eZyness, La Banque Postale manages payment processing and aggregation across all sales channels, as well as revenue allocation between the different mobility services.

Tarik Dinane, Chief Commercial Officer of Kuba Group and Managing Director of Kuba France, said:

“This project demonstrates the ability of French Regions to regain control of rail ticket distribution in order to offer passengers a simpler and more connected travel experience. By enabling the sale of TER tickets, season passes and combined rail and urban products on an open and scalable platform, we are actively contributing to Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s vision of seamless multimodal journeys.”

Jérôme Kravetz, Managing Director of Nouvelle-Aquitaine Mobilités, added:

“Under the leadership of the region and its member transport authorities, Nouvelle-Aquitaine Mobilités is designing and delivering a ‘single ticket’ solution across the region. The objective of a seamless journey experience is expected to be achieved by the end of 2027, with several key milestones already successfully completed. Digitally, 80% of regional transport networks are already distributed through the Modalis platform and its mobility account; the deployment of the first Modalis ticket vending machine for TER services opens the way for unified sales across networks and distribution channels.”
